YuppTV Originals hits the road with a refreshing change

Original content has taken over the digital space when it comes to entertainment. While a lot of brands are trying to fit in to this medium, it is quite a challenge for them to get viewers' time & interest. YuppTV has hit the road with its original content which was launched by their brand ambassador Mahesh Babu. It has gone the extra mile to bring cinematic brilliance to web allowing a refreshing change for the audiences.
YuppTV is a leading over-the-top online content provider as we know it. Their first web-series in the league of originals is a rom-com titled ENDUKILA, starring Sumanth Ashwin and Yamini Bhaskar. Directed by Lakshman Karya and presented by Deva Katta, Endukila looks funny to the core and a must-watch.
The very mention of Vennela Kishore brings a slight grin to our faces and much to our joy, he has rendered his voice for this web-series. Music by Mahesh Shankar offers respite from the loud and hard-hitting music. The entire series is backed with the best quality that the internet has ever witnessed.
What's more interesting about Endukila is that it strikes a chord not only with the millennials but also with the generation x and seniors.
The story starts with the birth of Dhanush Rishi (Sumanth Ashwin) who is an ill-fated guy. He faces misfortunes throughout his life and bad luck becomes synonymous with his name. Dhanush aspires to become a horse rider and it is not very often that actors are seen donning such roles.
Have you binge-watched all the episodes? The shot where Dhanush is seen upset over his childhood love leaving his city for good will melt your heart for sure. The scenes where Dhanush gets into tiffs with his father and dialogues like "Dasaradhudui lanti naaku ee daridrudu puttadam enti" are extremely humorous. Endukila has managed to establish relatability with misfortunes in everyday life.

We are hoping that the Endukila web-series is only a precursor to a hilarious ride with a bunch of upcoming web-series. Here’s wishing the team at YuppTV originals all the best!

Wakya Movie Review | watch latest Marathi films | Latest Marathi Movies online

CRITIC'S RATING: 1.5/5
AVG READERS' RATING: 3.0/5

STORY: Wakya is based on a member of the Potraj community and his struggle to ensure a better life for his son.

REVIEW: Potrajs belong to a community that has been ill-treated by the society when it comes to betterment in their situation. Wakya aims to bring this very bit into focus and does so through the story of Ghumya (Kulkarni) who makes a living by seeking alms in the name of Goddess mariaai.

Though hesitant, Ghumya follows the family tradition as he is told by his father (Dutt) that Goddess Mariaai's service is the community's only aim. However, Ghumya doesn't want his son to follow suit and instead wants him to study. But he is deterred by the villagers who don't want a 'beggar's son' to go to school. A landlord (Yadav) from the village comes forth and offers money to Ghumya under the pretext of helping him. But the landlord has his eyes set on Ghumya's wife (Dnyanlaxmi)

The hypocrisy of the society is evident from the story and it's something we've seen in quite a few films before. The National Award winning Dhag and the acclaimed Fandry showed the plight of such communities through engaging stories and execution. Wakya, which has a good subject, fails on that front.

The plot goes haywire and the substandard performances don't do anything to salvage the film. The lead actor, Kulkarni, shows conviction and should be appreciated for his sincerity but the supporting cast, including Yadav who gets the typecast villain's role, fail to generate interest.

In the end, Wakya becomes the film that could've been watchable had it been executed properly.

Bhavishyachi Aishi Taishi Movie Review | Latest Marathi Films | Latest marathi Movies

CRITIC'S RATING: 1.5/5
AVG READERS' RATING: 1.5/5

STORY: Three friends, Megha, Priya and Nishigandha, stay together in an apartment. While Megha and Priya have starkly opposite personalities, Nishigandha is the balancing factor between them.

REVIEW: Perhaps the makers of Bhavishyachi Aishi Taishi, literally meaning 'To hell with the future', didn't consult an astrologer before making the film. Or maybe they did and got a wrong prediction of it working well with the viewers.

First things first, here's what the film is about. So our leading ladies Megha (Naik), Priya (Jadhav) and Nishigandha (Zine) stay together and work at the same company. Megha is a complete astrology buff and has immense respect for astrologers. Priya hates astrology and leaves no chance to make her displeasure known. It is Nishigandha who balances the equation and prevents Priya and Megha from coming to blows. A meeting with an unknown lady (Usgaonkar) leads the three girls to the astrologer, Mr K, who predicts that Priya will die in a week's time.

Before you ask any questions, let us tell you that most of the film defies logical thinking. If you still have any queries, you can think about directing them to the makers, just like we are planning to do. The story probably stemmed out of a simple idea about making astrology relevant to the current generation. But how to make a film about it? Well, just sign three pretty ladies, put in a plot that makes you want to pull out your hair, add a sub-plot that aims to add suspense to the story, put in a cool as ice astrologer who 'helps people free of cost', stir well and voila! Your suspense drama is ready to be served.

To its credit, this film doesn't get too preachy. This is one of those films that has actors mouthing lines with deadpan looks and least enthusiasm. But we don't blame them. When the film itself is bad enough, there's very little they can do to salvage it.

As the astrologer in the film says, we can't give you an exact prediction of the future, but we can safely give you the option of skipping this one.

Laden Aala Re Aala Movie Review | Watch latest Marathi films | Latest Marathi Films

CRITIC'S RATING: 2.0/5
AVG READERS' RATING: 1.5/5

The first thing that strikes you about this film is its name. Then comes the most obvious question- why the name? We will come to that.

It so happens that in a sleepy town in Ratnagiri lives our protagonist PK Lele (Rizvi). A drunkard, Lele lives in a boat. One day, he tells the villagers that the rates of gold in the market are sure to soar in the near future and it's the best time to invest in it. The villagers heed his advice, but overnight the gold rates collapse. Lele is thrashed black and blue by the cops and he regrets giving the advice. However, a twist in tale gives the villagers a chance to earn Rs 5000 crores. How? Well, in this fictional story Osama Bin Laden escapes the United States and chooses Chikhalwadi as his hideout. Moreover, the US authorities announce a reward of Rs 5000 crores for anyone who finds him.

Firstly, why would a film involving Bin Laden be made six years after the terrorist was killed is a mystery. Let's say we are willing to keep that aside for a bit and watch the film just for the sake of entertainment. Yes, there are a few scenes that make you laugh but most of the jokes are crass and the film hardly entertains you.

Azim, who makes his Marathi debut with this film, needs some acting lessons urgently as do a few of the other actors. Actor Praneet Bhatt, another Marathi debutant, is somewhat convincing as Laden,

Watch this one only if you are a fan of mindless comedies and don't mind crass jokes.

Ubuntu Movie Review | Watch Marathi Movies | Marathi Movies

CRITIC'S RATING: 3.5/5
AVG READERS' RATING: 3.5/5

STORY: When elders threaten to shut down the only school in the village, a handful of students and a sincere teacher take it upon themselves to keep the classes going.

REVIEW: In the recent past, the NFDC production Vees Mhanje Vees delved into the sad state of affairs at schools in some villages. However, it didn't do complete justice to the topic at hand. Ubuntu, Pushkar Shrotri's debut directorial, takes up a similar subject and succeeds to an extent in doing justice to it.

For starters, Ubuntu means compassion and humanity, and the film aims to instill these values in viewers. A teacher (Sathaye) at the village school is trying his best to imbibe moral values as well as education in his students. However, the lack of attendance from his students starts creating problems. Further, the kids' antics add to the problem. But when the Sarpanch (Shende) threatens to shut down the school if the minimum attendance is not met daily, the kids unite and pledge to prevent the school from shutting down. Now, the kids are hell-bent on getting their peers to school, by hook or by crook.

The most interesting part of the film is the discourse of practical knowledge from the teacher. From treasure hunts to explain geography to games helping in mathematical solutions, the teacher, enacted well by Sathaye, gives the job his best. Then comes the message of humanity, which again is bang on.

Ubuntu leaves an impression on your minds, primarily because it's simple yet powerful message. Thankfully, it doesn't get preachy and that's a relief. But what works against the film is the second half. The songs in this part contribute to the slow pace and make it a bit tedious.

Besides this, Ubuntu is an enjoyable film that drives home a point. Watch out for the young actors; they boost the viewing experience.

Kaccha Limbu Movie Review | Watch Latest Marathi Movies online

CRITIC'S RATING: 4.0/5
AVG READERS' RATING: 4.5/5

Ever since the trailer of this film released, there were high hopes riding on Kaccha Limbu. Not just because it dealt with a very different and ‘special’ subject, but also because of a strong star cast (Kulkarni, Jadhav and Khedekar leading the way) and it film being the directorial debut of Prasad Oak. And boy what a debut it is!

Based on Jaywant Dalvi’s novel Runanubandh, the film, brilliantly adapted to screen by Chinmay Mandlekar, takes us into the Katdare household. Mohan Katdare (Jadhav) and his wife Shaila (Kulkarni) are like any other husband-wife, managing the house and taking care of their son Bacchu (Pem). Only here, Bacchu is a special kid who is mentally a child but whose physical needs are developing with his growing age. The katdares’ life is in shambles. So that either of them can be with Bacchu, Shaila works in the mornings while Mohan does a night-shift. In Shaila’s words, they are like the sun and the moon- when one rises, the other sets. In this cycle, the colour in the couple’s life is lost (this being beautifully conveyed by the black and white tone of the film) and the two forget enjoying. While Shaila’s boss Shrikant Pandit (Khedekar) tries to bring colour back in the couple’s life, Mohan has his office-mate Venkat (Mahadevan) to share his feelings with. But the Katdares learn it the hard way that they have to accept the reality and find ways to be happy with it.

For a debutant director to take on a subject like this needs sensitive handling and utmost care to not become a farce and Oak does this with the approach of a seasoned director. But, not without complete support from his actors.

Kulkarni pulls of a rather complex character with grace while Khedekar, as a pillar of support, is in top form. Jadhav, the debutant actor, emerges as a gem. As Mr Katdare, he does what many established actors couldn’t have and that too effortlessly. Manmeet, for whom this is an entirely different role as compared to the ones he's done before, truly delivers a special performance.

A special mention to Amalendu Chaudhary whose cinematography is breath-taking. It isn’t easy to shoot a film sans colour at a time when we are so used to seeing multiple hues.

Kaccha Limbu is easily one of the best films in Marathi cinema. Though shot in black and white, it has multiple layers that boast of fantastic writing and execution. Don’t miss this one.

Sugar Salt Ani Prem movie watch online | Marathi Latest Films online

MOVIE : Sugar Salt Ani Prem

CAST: Shilpa Tulaskar, Sonali Kulkarni, Kranti Redkar, Ajinkya Deo, Sameer Dharmadhikari, Prasad Oak, Yatin Karyekar

REVIEW: After Candle March and the recent Yudh, Sugar Salt Aani Prem offers a different perspective on the topic of women empowerment. It puts forth the idea that women's problems are not restricted to any strata or specific classification.

Ananya (Shilpa Tulaskar), Aditi (Sonali Kulkarni) and Soumya (Kranti Redkar) are married to Ajay (Ajinkya Deo) a super-rich businessman, Rahul (Sameer Dharmadhikari) a rich financial expert and Ravindra (Prasad Oak) a guy trying to do something worthwhile for the sake of humanity. Apart from Soumya, the other two ladies are ridiculed by their husbands; Ananya for helping the needy and Aditi for dedicating her complete time to her autistic son. Soumya, on the other hand, has a loving husband who cares a lot for her. But tragedy strikes her first. Soon, Ananya and Aditi have had enough of their husband's tantrums and decide to take matters in their hands. The tragic event in Soumya's life brings the three together and they set out on a mission to fulfill Ravindra's dream.

At the first glance, the film looks like one that will only scratch the surface of the problem instead of dealing with the crux of the matter. But it soon goes into full throttle and gives a lesson in women power to the viewers. Each actor, including Yatin Karyekar who plays the manipulative villain, gives the film their best shots but it is Sonali, Shilpa, and Kranti who steal the show with their effortless flow of acting.

The film is a classic example of how a simple story can be turned into something that grips you and gives you a lesson in morality and empowerment. And it does so with a little bit of sugar, salt, and love.
